Looking at not through

I returned last Wednesday after spending two weeks in Holland. I had intended to spend the time photographing house windows. House windows! Why?

I am intrigued by the glaring contradiction between the Dutch liberal attitude to sex and drugs, and their steadfast conformity and uniformity when it comes to the "face of their homes", they want to project.

The little gardens in front of their houses are laid out in neat geometric patterns which are meticulously manicured. While the windows have to be adorned by pots and plants. But importantly the objects have to be precisely and uniformly placed.

Well that had been the planned photographic project. Why is it all my "Master Plans" fail before starting. In this case on the second day in Holland Mrs YesBut and myself managed to contract the dreaded "oh-be-joyful" bug. As a result I spent the first week vomiting and - enough too much information!

The second week, and by then 2kg lighter, I did manage to get out to take some shots - see a sample below.
