The subject of last weeks blog was the memorial unveiled this summer in Parliament Square in honour of Nelson Mandela. Well they have managed to squeeze another statute into the small square.
This time there wasn't universal joy at the unveiling of the statue to David Lloyd George - the only Welshman to be Prime Minister of Great Britain. His detractors objected to the bombing campaign he ordered during the First World War in Iraq and Afghanistan - yes WW1 1914~1918 - that's how long Britain and its allies have imposed the "sollution" to problems in the area, of bombing the "natives" into submission. Will we never learn from history?
The bronze statue by Professor of Sculpture at the RCA, Glynn Williams, cost £323,000, £200,000 of which was donated by businessman Stan Thomas.
Unlike Tony Blair whose only legacy has been the Iraq debacle, Lloyd George was a great War Leader and reforming Prime Minister. Unfortunately in common with Blair, in the latter years in office his reputation was tarnished by accusations of selling Honours such as Knighthoods and Peerages.
