Two demonstrations

On Saturday there was an anti-war demonstration in Trafalgar Square.

I don't understand, who would arrange a demonstration on the same day as Wales were playing France at rugby.

This was no ordinary game. Having beaten Ireland the Saturday before to win the Triple Crown, Wales was going for the Grand Slam (beating England, Scotland, Ireland, Italy and France in one season).

Last summer Wales were humiliated when they were knocked out of the World Cup. But on Saturday the same squad of players were triumphant. How in such a short time was such a miraculous turnaround achieved? Through the guidance of the newly appointed coaches Warren Gatland and Shaun Edwards. They introduced discipline into the Welsh game, without inhibiting the natural talent and flare.

How good the team really is, will not be known until the summer, when Wales tours South Africa and play test matches against the World Champions.

Back to the demonstration. Prior to the Iraq War a series of anti-war demonstrations were held in London. People who had never thought of, no need, attended demonstrations, were there to publicly declare the opposition to the invasion of Iraq, but Blair treated them with contempt.

I wonder what if any influence Saturdays demonstration had? - I fear none.
